v5.80 -May 26, 2006
Additions:
- Browser-Based Help - The SoilVision Users Manual is now available on the web in html format. It provided easy navigation and search tools.
Bug Fixes:
- Region Seperation for Visualization - If the Region Seperation option was selected on the Output Settings dialog an error would result on Analyze.
- View Results - An error was introduced that prevented the View Results operation from working if FlexPDE version 5 is being used. This operation now works correctly.
- Region Move Operation - If the Region Move operation was executed on the 2D or 3D Regions dialog, then if a region was toggled on and off the incorrect region would be turned on or off. The error only affected viewing the regions while the Regions dialog was open. This error has been resolved.
- Export Precipitation to ASCII - When the Export to ASCII button was pressed on the Precipitation manager and error was generated in the data exported to the .txt file. This error did not affect the solution of the model.

Bug Fixes:
- Network Security - Station idle time has been set correctly to 10 minutes. The idle time can be monitored using the Aladdin Monitor. The license is released when Exit is pressed from the File menu.

- Network Security - The network security has been improved. Idle licenses will now be available after 10 minutes. More descriptive messages regarding network dongle querying have been added.
- Runoff Correction - The runoff correction has been improved.

- Custom Definitions - A Custom Definitions dialog has been added whereby custom solver definitions can be written to the solver file on Analyze.
- Unit Gradient Boundary Condition - The unit gradient boundary condition is now available in 1D, 2D, Axisymmetric, and 3D.

Bug Fixes:
- History Plot Display Error - When the None option was selected for initial conditions in steady-state models any history plots defined would not be displayed in the solver. This error has been resolved.

Bug Fixes:
- 3D Surface Delete - When a surface was deleted in 3D that was not the top surface then a minor error would result.
- 3D Initial Conditions By Region on Surface Insert - When a surface was inserted in 3D that was not inserted at the top the data for the initial conditions By Region option was not updated properly.
- 3D Surface Definitions on Surface Insert - When a surface was inserted in 3D using the Insert Below option then the Surface Definitions were not being adjusted in some cases..
- Modified Penman Formulation At Negative Temperatures Adjustment - A minor adjustment was made to the negative temperature correction for the Modified Penman formulation to improve accuracy in certain situations.
- Folder Structure Creation When Database Name Changed - The file folder structure for SVFlux model files was not being created when attaching to the SVFlux_Data_L.mdb database file if the database file name was changed. This error has been resolved.

- Restricting Plot To A Region - There was an error that resulted in the selection of the Restrict To Region option on the Plot Properties dialog if there were many regions defined for the problem. This error has been resolved.

- 1D Actual Evaporation Improvement - The accuracy of calculation of actual evaporation in 1D models has been improved.
v5.71 - March 07, 2006
Additions:
- Suction Cutoff Option - An option has been added to choose between a sharp suction cutoff and a smooth suction cutoff. The suction cutoff is used to prevent low suctions for vapour pressure, evaoptranspiration, SWCC, and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity calculations. This option provides a choice of accuracy vs. convergence in certain situations.

- 1D Steady-State Boundary Conditions - The boundary condition list was unavailable if the model was 1D and steady-state.

- HISTORY_LIMIT Solver Option - Corrected error that occured when large limits were entered.
v5.68 - February 25, 2006
Additions:
- HISTORY_LIMIT Solver Option - The HISTORY_LIMIT option is now available. This solver option sets the limit at which history data will undergo compression for data storage purposes. When the solver cycle reaches this limit the earliest data will be averaged. The default has been set at 100000 to prevent compression in the majority of cases.
- Comprehensive H-Based Formulation Added - A Comprehensive H-Based formulation of the seepage equation has been added.
- Improved Minimum Suction Handling - A minor adjustment to the minimum suction statement improves solution speed.
- Modified Penman Formulation At Negative Temperatures - The potential evaporation has been set to 0 when the air temperature is at or below 0 to prevent divide by zero errors in the formulation and better represent physical conditions.
Bug Fixes:
- Mesh Spacing Continuation - A mesh spacing specification for a given region segment was being continued to following segments for certain cases.
- Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity Data in 1D - Extra code was written to the solver file when unsaturated hydraulic conductivity data was selected in a 1D problem. This caused an error on problem solution.
- 1D Mesh Spacing - An error resulted when a mesh spacing was specified for a region point if a boundary condition was also specified for the same point under certain conditions in 1D.
- 1D Evapotranspiration Root Profile Error - If modeling was done in 1D Horizontal, an error resulted if the root profile features of evapotranspiration was used.

Bug Fixes:
- Extra Output File Variables - An error was recently introduced where extra variables were listed in the Output Variable list on the Output Properties dialog. Errors resulted if these extra variables were selected for output.

Bug Fixes:
- Net Radiation Data Option - An error occurred in the calculation of potential evaporation when the Data option was selected for net radiation in the Penman potential evaporation option. This error has been resolved.

- 1D Mesh plot - A plot of mesh density along the axis is now available in 1D analysis.

Additions:
- Evaporation Plots - Evaporation was changed to plot in accordance with the sign convention of flux at a boundary. An evaporation results in a negative flow into the problem, therefore it will be displayed as a negative value when plotted.
Bug Fixes:
- Flux Section Region Association - The region that a flux section was associated with was not being updated during the Region Move operations on the Regions dialog. This error has been resolved.
- Evaporation Option Change - A minor error has been fixed that occurred on the Evaporation dialog when the Evaporation Option was changed.

- Precipitation Import - Daily Intensity - The daily intensity information was not being transfered during an import of a precipitation dataset.

- Leong Estimation Graph - The Leong estimation graph presented erroneous values. The correct Leong kunsat equation was still written correctly to the solver. The graphing error has been resolved.

Bug Fixes:
- Precipitation Data Applied to Circle Shape - An error occured when a precipitation dataset was applied to a circle shape boundary in 2D. This error has been resolved.

Additions:
- Evapotranpiration - Evapotranspiration can be applied with an evaporation boundary condition to simulate water uptake due to plant transpiration. A sink term can be applied to draw water from soil regions depending of root depth, root distribution profile, leaf-area index, and moisture limiting functions.
Bug Fixes:
- 3D Insert Point - The boundary condition records were not being created when the insert point operation was executed in a 3D model. This error has been resolved.
- Brooks and Corey SWCC - An error caused incorrect calculation of the vwc and storage for the Brooks and Corey SWCC fit.
- Axisymmetric Evaporation - When an evaporation boundary condition was applied in an axisymmetrc model an error would result in certain situations.

Bug Fixes:
- Surface Min/Max Entry Lost - The minimum or maximum seperation value entered for a surface definition was not being copied during a Save As or Import Problem operation. This error has been resolved.
- Internal Flux Section Normal - An error resulted when a flux section was specified with negative coordinate(s) and was also specified as internal to a region.

Additions:
- Plot Data Limits - Minimum and maximum display values can now be applied to plots. This feature is useful for isolating variables changes in specific problem areas.
- Solver Version - The choice of solver version has been added to the Getting Started Wizard.
Bug Fixes:
- Student License Link - The link for student license files has been updated on the Getting Started Wizard.
- Initial Conditions Grid - Fixed an error that caused data for the Initial Conditions Grid option to have its axis reversed.
- AcuMesh Output in Steady State - Fixed a problem introduced in version 5.50 that caused an error when an AcuMesh output file was selected for a steady-state problem.

- 1D Flux Reports - Resolved errors in normal flux section reports relating to sign convention in 1D analysis.

Additions:
- 1D Analysis - The new 1D solver allows modeling on a vertical or horizontal 1D axis. 1D solutions offer considerable solution time savings over 2D column models (20 - 300 times). The 1D model is defined with all the operations familiar in the 2D CAD interface. The model is represented as a 2D column for ease visualization and setup. (A Professional license is required to enable 1D)
- Precipitation Data Not Limited - The limit on the number of precipitation data points that can be entered when applying the daily intensity correction has been removed.
Bug Fixes:
- Precipitation Reports - An error was introduced in version 5.53 that prevented precipitation reports and history graphs from being written to the solution file.
- Precipitation Menu After Plot Operation - When the select plot zoom or select elevation plot range commands were executed on the Plot Properties form the Precipitation Menu would become unavailable in error.
- New Report Error - Fixed a problem that prevented new Reports from being added in the Plot Properties form.
- Expression Field Syntax - All expression fields in SVFlux (including boundary conditions and intial conditions) that require the user to enter an expression of their choice must be entered using the "." as the decimal seperator. These fields would previously accept "," as the decimal seperator for use with certain language settings. The "," syntax was preventing the use of some solver functions such as SWAGE.
- Command Line Entry - Fixed an error that prevented region geometry, flux sections, and features from being saved when entered using the command line. This error was introduced in a recent version.
v5.54 - May 19, 2005
Additions:
- Batch Analysis - Multiple problems can be selected to run consecutively in a batch run.
- Runoff - Runoff reporting has been added for Evaporation and Precipitation Boundary Condition application.
- Monitor Default - The default for all solver output has set to Monitor. This means that the output will be displayed during solution, but not saved to the hard drive to save space. Output can be saved by selecting the Plot option.
- Plot & Monitor Options - The option to save solver output data (Plot Option) or just display solver solver output during anaylsis (Monitor Option) to save disk space is now available for: Evaporation, Precipitation, Boundary Flux, and Mass Balance output.
- Output Cycle - The option to have solver plots and output updated by solver cycle instead of time steps is now available for: Evaporation, Precipitation, Flux Sections, Surface Flux Sections, Boundary Flux, and Mass Balance.
- Delete Shape - A new button to delete a shape can be found on the 2D Region Properties form.
Bug Fixes:
- Import of Evaporation - Fixed an error that prevented certain evaporation data from being copied during an Import Problem or Save Problem As operation.
- View 3D Geometry Reports - When the View Surfaces, View Layers, or View Regions features were used to view 3D geometry before problem analysis, if too many region-layer combinations were present some reports would be too small to read.
- Vertical Scale - Flux Boundary Use - Flux expression boundary conditions were applied incorrectly if a vertical scale was applied.
- Vertical Scale Import - Fixed an error that prevented vertical scale settings from being copied during an Import Problem or Save Problem As operation.
v5.52 - April 21, 2005
Additions:
- New Flux Sections Demos - 14 new demo problems illustrating the sign convention for flux sections, surface flux sections, and boundary flux sections have been added to the distribution database.
Bug Fixes:
- Component Flux Boundary Condition - An error was introduced in version 5.50 that occurred when a component flux boundary condition with evaporation was selected, but the precipitation component was left blank.
- Evaporation Summary Report - The potential evaporation rate report was not being generated for the evaporation summary report.
- Threads - The THREADS finite-element option was written to the solution file incorrectly.

Bug Fixes:
- Surface Flux Sections - An error was introduced in version 5.50 that happened when surface flux sections were choosen to be reported.
- Evaporation Report End Time - An error was fixed that prevented the end time specification for certain global evaporation reports from being updated.

Additions:
- Improved Surface Definitions - The entry of 3D surface definitions has been significantly improved to provide: increased capabilities in handled thin surfaces and surfaces that pinch out, definition of surfaces in terms of equations or constants, and relational surface definitions.
- Installation Wizard - A new installation wizard simplifies the installation process.
- Actual Evaporation - Actual evaporation can be input as data or a free-form expression in addition to potential evaporation. Actual evaporation could previously only be calculated from potential evaporation using the Wilson(1997) method.
- Gitirana and Fredlund SWCC Fit - The Gitirana and Fredlund soil-water characteristic curve fitting method has been implimented.
- Brooks and Corey SWCC Fit - The Brooks and Corey soil-water characteristic curve fitting method has been implimented.
- Brooks and Corey Hydraulic Conductivity Estimation - Estimation of the hydraulic conductivity function using the Brooks and Corey method has been added.
- SWCC Expression - The soil-water characteristic curve can now be defined as a free-form equation.
- Hydraulic Conductivity Expression - The hydraulic conductivity curve can now be defined as a free-form equation.
- 3D Vertical Scale - The vertical scale option is useful for improving convergence in problems with very thin layers or with low vertical/horizontal aspect ratios.
- Initial Conditions Expression - The initial conditions for the entire model can be defined as a constant or free-form equation.
- Initial Conditions By Region - Initial conditions can be defined by specifying a constant or expression for each region in the problem.
- Steady-State Initial Head - All the initial head options can be applied in a steady-state analysis.
- Jump Boundary Condition - The Jump boundary condition can be selected to facilitate discontinuities in variables at internal region boundaries.
- Review Boundary Staging - The BIG review boundary condition variable has been staged to improve convergence.
- Precipitation Reporting - Precipitation integral and cumulative precipitation reports and history plots are now available.
- Flux Section Reporting - Flux Section reporting has been improved to provide clarity regarding sign convention of reported fluxes.
- Runoff Correction - The runoff correction method has been improved.
Bug Fixes:
- 3D Mesh Spacing Save - The region mesh spacing specification was not being saved during a Save As or Import Problem operation.
- Circle Region Radius in 3D - An error was fixed that caused a circle region radius to be set to the center x coordinate on open of the Region Properties form.
- Evaporation Dataset - Corrected error when loading an evaporation dataset if data was already present.
- Plot Variable Check - An error was introduced in
version 5.00 whereby variables selected for plotting were not checked for all the required input parameters. The correct checks are now re-instated.
- 3D Runoff Correction - Fixed error that resulted in the runoff correction not being applied to flux expression boundary conditions in 3D problems.
v5.16 - March 23, 2005
Bug Fixes:
- Potential Evaporation Reporting - Fixed error that
occured occasionally when Evaporation variables were selected to be
reported.
- Flux per Area Units - An error was introduced in
version 5.15 whereby variables with flux per area units were labeled
as flux per volume. The correct unit labels are now displayed.

Additions:
- Evaporation Only Boundary Condition - The restriction
that precipitation was required to be entered when evaporation was also
selected for a given boundary segment has been removed.
Bug Fixes:
- Potential Evaporation Reporting - Fixed error that
occured when precipitation was selected to be reported in the Evaporation
section.
- Evaporation History Reports/Graphs - An error has
been resolved that resulted in lost evaporation history reports and
graphs selections when the Save As operation was used or the Import
Problem operation was used.

has been resolved that resulted in lost wind speed data when the ProjectID
or ProblemID was edited.

- Staged Review Boundary - The review boundary condition
is now staged in steady-state analysis to significantly improve convergence.
Bug Fixes:
- Evaporation Input Files - The SAVE function has been
removed from evaporation property tables to improve solution time.
- Minor Staging ksat Error - Repaired error that occured
when the ksat for a soil was set to be staged and the labratory data
option was selected for unsaturated k.

Bug Fixes:
- Importing Data From External Files - Errors introduced
in version 5.09 related to the import of data from external sources
such as DXF Overlays have been resolved.
- Minor Divide Segment Error - Repaired error that
occured when the first region point was edited or deleted and then the
divide segment operation was executed.

Bug Fixes:
- Computer Language Settings - More revisions have
been made to allow compatibility with certain language settings. Errors
related to the interpretation of certain characters based on these settings
have been resolved.
- Minor 3D Grid Manipulation Errors - Repaired minor
errors encountered during manipulation of 3D surface grids.
v5.09 - December 24, 2004
Additions:
- 3D Area Reporting - The reporting of areas in 3D
models has been added including extrusion surface areas, sidewall areas,
and bounding surface areas.
- Write Solver File Without Immediate Solve - The solution
file can now be sent to the sovler without it solving the problem immediately.
This allows the file to be copied to other computers that more processing
power.
- 3D Model Preview - Preview the current model geometry before
solving. 3 options are available: view surfaces, view regions, and view
layers. All include comprehensive reporting of component areas and volumes.
Bug Fixes:
- Computer Language Settings - Revisions have been
made to allow compatibility with certain language settings. Errors related
to the interpretation of certain characters based on these settings
have been resolved.
- Divide By Zero on Load - Occasional divide by zero
errors encoutered on open of the program have been fixed.
- Potential Evaporation Data Import/Save As - Potential
evaporation data was not being imported during the Import Problem operation
or saved during the Save As operation.
- Tab-Delimited ASCII Surface Files - Import of tab-delimited
ASCII files of surface data is now possible in addition to space-delimited
files.
- Wrong Format for Relative Humidity Output - Relative
humidity data was not written out to the solver as a percentage, therefore,
evaporation calculations involving it were off.
- Inserting a Point into a 2D Water Table - An error
preventing the insertion of a new point into a 2D water table has been
removed.
v5.00 - July 15, 2004
Additions:
- Evaporative Boundary Condition - Implementation of
the Modified Penman equation is now included in SVFlux. The evaporative
boundary condition is simple to use and allows fast modeling of the
long-term performance of soil covers.
- Boundary Flux Reporting - Boundary flux can be reported
across any region boundary.
- Mass Balance Calculations - Determine the mass balance by 2
methods: comparing flux sections to water volumes or comparing boundary
fluxes to water volumes.
- Precipitation Daily Intensity Correction - Application
of the daily intensity correction to precipitation data can now allow
modeling of storm events.
- Refresh Plots by Solver Cycle - Refresh plots and
reports based on solver cycle instead of time.
- Soil Import Drill-Down Query - Soil import form now
features a drill-down query.
- Flux Section Reporting - Reporting options for flux
sections have been improved.
- Custom Plots - Custom plots or output can now be
specified.
v4.00 - February 2, 2004
Additions:
- Stochastic Analysis - Soil properties can be staged
to improve convergence or study the statistical variation. Statistical
distribution methods include Monte Carlo normal, triangular, exponential,
uniform, and Poisson.
- Mixed Formulation - The Mixed (mass conservative)
finite element seepage formulation has been added. Choose between the
Mixed and the H-Based (conventional) formulations.
- Flux Data Boundaries - Flux Data boundary conditions have been
improved. Flux Data sets created in the Flux Data Manager can now be
applied to any region or feature boundary in any problem.
- Run Log - The run log generated by the solver containing
run times and other information can now be stored in the database.
- Output File Definition - Output definition has been
significantly improved by the use of separate forms for graphical plots
and output data files.
- Additional 3D Plot Modifiers - Additional modifiers
for 3D plots have been added.
- Plot/Monitor Option - The ability to choose to display
or write the solver output can now save hard drive space and improve
run times.
- Boundary Condition Form Improved - Boundary Condition
form flow and functionality has been improved.
- Boundary Condition Equation Builder - An equation
builder for flux boundary conditions has been implemented.
v3.00 - April 29, 2003
Additions:
- Redesigned 3D Model - Redesigned creation of 3D problems to
significantly improve complexity and speed of model creation. Surface
grids are now independant of region geometry.
- Boundary Condition Graphics - Display of graphical
boundary conditions has been added.
- Void Spaces - The ability to create 2D and 3D void
spaces has been added.
- Plan View Analysis - Plan view analysis has been
implemented.
- Anisotropic Analysis - Anisotropic analysis in 2D
and 3D has been implemented.
- Axisymmetric Analysis - Axisymmetric analysis has
been added.
- XYZ (Surfer) Data Import - SVFlux now allows the
import of Surfer. or generic XYZ files to be used as grid files for
the creation of 3D problems.

has been added.
- CAD Rulers - Rulers have been added to the edges
of the CAD display window.
- SWCC Fitting Methods - Implemented the representation of the
soil-water characteristic curve by the van Genuchten, Fredlund & Xing,
Mualem, and Gardner methods.
- Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity Estimation - Implemented
the estimation of unsaturated hydraulic conductivity by the van Genuchten
& Mualem, Modified Campbell, and the Leong & Rahardjo methods.
- Log Plots - The ability to output log plots of hydraulic
conductivity has been added.
- Problem Importing - Single problems may now be imported
from different databases.
- Shape Fillets - The ability to have fillets on shape
corners has been added.
- Runoff Boundary Condition - A new runoff boundary
condition has been implemented.
- 3D Review Boundary Condition - Review boundary conditions
have been implemented in 3D.
- 3D Surface Insertion - Allow the inserting of 3D
surfaces. Also implemented the ability to create surface grids based
on existing grids.
- Circular Shapes- The ability to enter circular shapes
has been added.
- AutoCAD DXF Import - The ability to import 3D regions
from AutoCAD DXF files has been added.
- Demo and Student Versions - A student and a demo
version have been implemented.
- Realtime Zoom - Zooming is now allowed in real-time.
- Region Segment Division - Division of region line
segments is now possible.
- Textbox Formatting - Formatting of textboxes has
been improved.
- Head Equation Builder - An equation builder for head
boundary conditions has been implemented.
- Irregular Surface Grids- The ability to generate
irregular grids has been implemented. Other grid functions such as adjusting
grid overlap, the ability to crop elevations and other grid integrity
functions have been added.
- Grid Visualization - Cavalier projections of grids
has been added to enhance grid visualization in the front-end.
- GPS Coordinates - Implementation of a global offset
now allows the user to work in GPS coordinates.
- Image and DXF Overlays - AutoCAD overlays are also
now possible.
- Flux Section Reporting- Reporting of flux section
results has been dramatically improved.

system has been implemented.

- Restricting Plot To A Region - There was an error that resulted in the selection of the Restrict To Region option on the Plot Properties dialog if there were many regions defined for the problem. This error has been resolved.
- Mesh Spacing Continuation - A mesh spacing specification for a given region segment was being continued to following segments for certain cases.
- 3D Surface Menus - The updated Surface Definition menu option was not being displayed correctly.
- Suction Friction Angle - The total cohesion was not being written to the solver file when the Consider PWP option was selected and the Suction Friction Angle was not provided for all soils.
