Internet Connection Requirements

SVOffice 2009 does not require an Internet connection for normal operation. An Internet connection is only required for the following scenarios:

• SVOffice 2009 uses the Internet to check for software updates, and for updates to the standard public models. If a network connection is not available, the text "Unable to check for updates" will be displayed at the bottom of the SVOffice Manager screen.
• Software-based time trial licenses require an Internet connection for activation. Once activation is completed, a connection is no longer required. Please note that dongle-based licenses never require an Internet connection for use. Also, the STUDENT version of SVOffice 2009 does not require an Internet connection for use.
• SVOffice 2009 is capable of emailing model files to any email address, often used for support purposes.

If you use a software- or hardware-based firewall, you will need to add the following exceptions to your exceptions list:

• Checking for updates: HTTP
• Trial license activation: HTTPS (443) and 1947
• Sending model files by email: SMTP

The SoilVision product does not require an Internet connection for use.
