Debugging Installation and Authorization IssuesOur SoilVision and SVOffice products use a USB dongle for permanent authorization of the purchased product. These dongles require installation of a special driver on your computer before they will work.
COMMON ERRORSMost authorization errors can be diagnosed in one of two ways: (1) checking the Authorization log within the software, and (2) checking the driver status page in your web browser. The Authorization log is located on the Authorization dialog, which is found under the File menu in the SVOffice 2009 Manager, and on the main screen in SoilVision. Some common errors seen during installation or authorization are listed here:
The driver status page can be viewed from a web browser at the URL http://localhost:1947/. This is a diagnostic page that lists all dongles (network and local) available to your computer. If this page is missing, then do you not have the SVOffice 2009 drivers installed. (Please note that these drivers are not required for SoilVision.) SVOFFICE 2009If you use SVOffice 2009 by itself: The SVOffice 2009 installer now includes the dongle drivers by default. Simply check the "HASP Drivers" box during installation and proceed. If you have previously installed the HASP drivers and they are working, then they do not need to be reinstalled and you may uncheck the box during installation. You can download the latest SVOffice 2009 installer from our website. If your existing drivers are not working: Use the following procedure to uninstall your current drivers and install the new ones instead. Step 1: Uninstall all existing Hasp dongle drivers. This is accomplished by going to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and removing all drivers with phrases such as "Hasp Device Driver", "Aladdin HASP", or "Sentinel HASP". Step 2: Re-start your computer. This step is required to complete the device driver removal. Step 3: Install the new drivers contained in the SVOffice 2009 installer by checking the "HASP Drivers" box when prompted. Testing your new drivers: Run SVOffice 2009 and open the File > Authorization window. You should see the correct authorization information listed (assuming you have entered it, or plugged in your dongle if you have a permanent license). You can also view the Authorization log for more details. Open a web browser and visit the URL http://localhost:1947/. This is a diagnostic page that lists all dongles (network and local) available to your computer. If this page is missing, then do you not have the latest drivers installed. SOILVISIONIf you use SoilVision by itself: The SoilVision CD includes a menu item to install the legacy dongle drivers required by SoilVision. The drivers may also be downloaded from our SoilVision downloads page. They only need to be installed once. Please note that the SoilVision product does not support Windows Vista nor Windows 7 at this time. (Some users have reported that using Windows XP Compatibility mode has worked for the installer.) If your existing drivers are not working: Use the following procedure to uninstall your current drivers and reinstall the legacy ones. Step 3: Install the legacy drivers from your SoilVision CD by opening the CD and browsing for the file /HASP/hdd32.exe. Alternatively, you can download the driver from the SoilVision download page. Testing your new drivers: Run SoilVision and ensure that you are running version 4.21 or later. Then open the Authorization window. You should see the correct authorization information listed, assuming your dongle is plugged in to the computer. The Details window and the log will provide additional information. If you are running version 4.20 or earlier, please visit our SoilVision download page to obtain a newer version. There is also a diagnostic utility on your SoilVision CD called Diagnostix (located at /HASP/diagnostix.exe) that you may install and use to get additional information about your installed drivers. Please note that this utility only works with the legacy drivers used by SoilVision. SOILVISION AND SVOFFICE 2009If you use both SVOffice 2009 and SoilVision on the same computer: Each product requires a different version of the dongle drivers, which must be installed in the correct order. The newer drivers must be installed first; in addition, all legacy drivers must be removed before you begin. Once all drivers are installed correctly, you do not need to install them again; you may uncheck the "HASP Drivers" box during future upgrades. If you only wish to use SoilVision for the professional soils database, you may choose to ignore the legacy drivers and import soils directly from SVOffice 2009. This is the recommended scenario for Windows 7 installations, as Windows Vista and Windows 7 are not supported by the SoilVision product. If your existing drivers are not working: Use the following procedure to uninstall your current drivers and install both the new ones and the legacy ones. Be sure to allow the driver to finish installing before proceeding to the next step. Step 4 (optional): Install the legacy drivers from your SoilVision CD by opening the CD and browsing for the file /HASP/hdd32.exe. Alternatively, you can download the driver from the SoilVision download page. Testing your new drivers: Run SoilVision and ensure that you are running version 4.21 or later. Then open the Authorization window. You should see the correct authorization information listed, assuming your dongle is plugged in to the computer and that you successfully installed the legacy drivers. The Details window and the log will provide additional information. If you are running version 4.20 or earlier, please visit our SoilVision download page to obtain a newer version. Run SVOffice 2009 and open the Authorization window. You should see the correct authorization information listed (assuming you have entered it, or plugged in your dongle if you have a permanent license). You can also view the Authorization log for more details. Please note that the SoilVision product is also listed here for your convenience. Open a web browser and visit the URL http://localhost:1947/. This is a diagnostic page that lists all dongles (network and local) available to your computer. If this page is missing, then do you not have the latest drivers installed. FLEXPDEFlexPDE is authorized by a separate code from SVOffice 2009. The authorization code is not checked until FlexPDE is run at least once. You may see FlexPDE listed as a Student license in the SVOffice 2009 Authorization dialog even if you have a full license, the first time you open your installed software. To force a FlexPDE authorization check, click on the "Details..." button from the Authorization window to launch the FlexPDE application. The next time the Authorization dialog is opened, the FlexPDE information should be up-to-date. If you require a trial license for FlexPDE for any reason, follow these steps: Step 1: Open FlexPDE and open the Help > Register window. Step 2: Locate the Computer ID listed in this window. Step 3: Navigate to the FlexPDE Trial License page and fill out the trial license request form there. You will receive an email with a one-month authorization code and further instructions. NETWORK DONGLESUsers with network dongles will normally attach them to protected computers such as a server. In such cases, a License Manager will be required on the server, in addition to the standard dongle drivers on any client machine that will be running the software. For the server computer: The License Manager can be obtained from the Aladdin support website at http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/hasp4/enduser.aspx#lm. You will need to determine which download is suitable for your particular server environment. Installation details will be included where necessary in the download. Please note that the License Manager should be installed as a service so that it runs automatically at all times. For each client computer: Follow the procedures listed above for SVOffice 2009 for each client computer as normal. If you are configuring a Windows 7 virtual environment, refer to this document for additional support information. NETHASP.INI: SVOffice 2009 now includes a template for the nethasp.ini file that is required for network dongles, called DEFAULTnethasp.ini. This file can be found in your SVOffice installation folder (Program Files\SoilVision\SVOffice 2009). Software upgrades will update the template file but will not alter the current nethasp.ini file. If you need a fresh copy of nethasp.ini, download the file listed below. It should be placed into the application directory where FlexPDE5.exe, FlexPDE6.exe, SVOffice.exe (either 2006 or 2009), or SoilVision.mde is located. Adjustments can be made as suggested by SoilVision Systems Ltd.
