SVFlux - 2D Gallery - Geomembrane Problems

Geomembrane

preprocessor

postprocessor
Solution of a problem involving extreme geometry variation. A fine, almost impermeable geomembrane is placed between the landfill material and the regional soil. Significant mesh refinement is encountered to accommodate the large changes in permeability over a small spacial distance but the problem solves in reasonable time.
Model setup time: 47 minutes
Solution time: 1 minute 19 seconds on a 1.0 GHz Pentium machine

Geomembrane Complex

preprocessor

postprocessor
The problem involves the modeling of a thin geomembrane liner underneath fill. This problem demonstrates the ability of the software to solve extreme differences in hydraulic conductivity and geometry. The problem width is approximately 100m and the thickness of the geomembrane is set at 1 cm. The geomembrane is described at the top of the tan colored sand layer and is not visible at the scale shown above.
Model setup time: 34 minutes
Solution time: 2 hours 34 minutes 866 MHz Pentium machine
Nodes: 145,000
