SoilVision Systems Ltd. Announces SVFLUX™WR and SVHEAT™WR as key components of the New SVOFFICE™5/WR Hydrogeological Software Suite


SASKATOON, SK, Canada - May 18, 2017

The innovative new SVFLUX™WR module combines the market-leading SVOFFICE™ CAD-based 2D/3D model building and visualization interfaces with the groundwater modeling abilities of the FEHM solver developed by Los Alamos National Labs (LANL). The software was developed over 20 years as phase one of a collaboration between SoilVision and LANL. The FEHM solver produces fast solutions of highly non-linear models considering unsaturated soil mechanics. Therefore, regional flow models including many pumping wells with complex geometry can be modeled. The solution implements a powerful triangular (2D) and tetrahedral (3D) mesher.

The SVHEAT™WR software package is a market-leading geothermal analysis package which offers both 2D and 3D analysis. It is applicable to hydrogeological and mining-related engineering projects. The product can be coupled with SVFLUX™WR to model convective flow. The product can be coupled with SVFLUX™WR to model convective flow.

The SVOFFICE™5/WR release of SVFLUX™WR software contains the following key features:

  • Analysis of 2D and 3D complex groundwater modeling
    • Large-scale regional groundwater modeling
    • Seepage analysis of earth dams and levees
    • Simulation of pumping wells in confined and unconfined aquifers
    • Mine dewatering analysis
    • Thin layer model support
  • Saturated and unsaturated flows
    • Stable and fast analysis of highly nonlinear unsaturated flow using Richards’ Equation
  • Double Porosity / Double Permeability capabilities for fractured media
    • Allow the communication between the fractures and matrix block in the reservoir in addition to the flow within the fractures and matrix blocks
    • Produce a more realistic simulation than the Dual Porosity method in that the matrix can communicate with other matrix nodes
    • SVFLUX WR can manage both Double Porosity / Double Permeability and normal materials in one single model to obtain a more accurate representation of a fractured reservoir
  • Fully implicit, fully coupled Newton Raphson solution of nonlinear equations
    • Provide stability and higher accuracy for stiff problems, such as steep hydraulic conductivity function in unsaturated zones
  • Control Volume (CV) and Finite Element (FE) method
    • Provide stabilized numerical solutions for unsteady problems
      Readily handle very complex geometry
  • Fully automatic unstructured (2D triangular and 3D tetrahedral) and structured (2D quadrilateral) mesh generation and manual mesh refinement
    • The new SVFLUX™WR software introduces a new automatic mesh generation algorithm for increased user control over the mesh
    • We introduced the new Selective Mesh Refinement function to allow the user to manually select specific areas of interest, key zones or along critical boundaries for more targeted refinement processing
  • Import soil properties from the SVSOILS™ database of over 6200 soils
  • Easy to use and simplified CAD-based user interface
    • The menu system within the software has been reorganized to be more clear. Primary functions are organized in a left to right format along the menu
    • Simple and powerful user interface allows rapid creation of models

The SVOFFICE™5/WR release of SVHEAT™WR software contains the following key features:
  • Simulation of heat conduction and heat convection in porous media

  • Simulate heat transfer in both saturated and unsaturated media

  • Simulation of non-isothermal, multi-phase flow of water and vapor in porous media

  • Account for the movement of water and vapor phases, transport of latent and sensible heat and change with boiling and condensing

  • Capability of simulating high-temperature (up to 360 °C) and high-pressure (up to 110 MPa) geothermal systems

  • Fully implicit, fully coupled Newton Raphson solution of nonlinear equations
    • Provide stability and higher accuracy for stiff problems
    • Density, viscosity and enthalpy of different phases are automatically calculated at each Newton-Raphson iteration based on the thermodynamics functions of temperature and pressure
  • Control volume (CV) and finite element method (FE) methods
    • Provide stabilized numerical solutions for unsteady problems
