Open pits are a common method of mining in the world. The design of such pits requires the application of technologies from a number of fields. One of the common scenarios is that the bottom of the pit may possibly extend beneath the water table of the surrounding geo-strata. If so, a suitable set of pumping wells must be designed in order to ensure that the bottom of the pit does not flood. Other technical challenges may include:

When building models, it is sometimes useful to know how well 2D or plan-view geometry matches to the actual site. SVOffice™ 2009 now contains a feature, found under Model > Site Photo, that allows a user to display an image underneath their model at a specified pair of coordinates. By using GIS coordinates (or the appropriate ones relative to the bottom-left of your model), you can precisely align the image to your model's geometry! |

Line and Geometry Simplification

Region points that add no information to a model waste calculation time, increase the output file size, and make visualization of the results harder to understand. To address this, SVOffice™ 2009 now includes a line simplification tool that uses standard algorithms to locate and remove unnecessary detail from your geometry, without changing the overall shape.
