Customer Comments

Below are customer comments about SoilVision Systems. Comments are categorized according to software package.

“SoilVision is a valuable program which assists in the design of soil cover systems for waste management faculties such as landfills, tailing deposits and waste rock dumps. In many cases the soil-water characteristic curves and hydraulic conductivity values for the potential soils which may be used for construction are not available during the early stages of design. We use SoilVision to estimate the properties on the basis of the grain-size distribution and other simple index properties. This allows preliminary analysis to proceed almost immediately. The optimum soils may be selected for the more detailed and time-consuming testing. In many cases it is possible to provide a complete design while testing only a limited number of samples to confirm soil properties."

“The power of SoilVision is in its large database of soil-water characteristic curves, and the fact that this database can be added to by the user. The "query" option allows grouping of soils with similar characteristics, such as grain-size distribution and classification. SoilVision is a valuable tool for use in unsaturated soil studies."
Claudia E. Zapata, Ph.D.

"SoilVision Lite has given us the capability our clients demanded to customize reports for a several-hundred soil sample project."

"SoilVision has many new features which enhance the usefulness of the software significantly. Some of these new options include the statistical evaluation of data, a new option for dealing with gap-graded soils, and the inclusion of shrinkage curves for enhanced representation of clay soils. Additional flexibility has also been added through the acceptance of soil suction data as a function of gravimetric water content, and the addition of soil-water characteristic curve fitting equations that are based on regression analyses."

"I think everyone in the geotechnical field should have this valuable software. Laboratory data is centralized so the longer you own this valuable software, the more powerful the database becomes. This software saves man-hours and paperwork and helps proposals be more competitive.
The software quality plotting capability is unmatched. You will need to spend several thousands of dollars on different softare to produce what SoilVision can do. I use the software to estimate soil properties by running limited testing and then probe the SoilVision database for similar soils. From just conducting a grain size, I can estimate permeability of the soil, cohesion, angle of internal friction etc... The sky is the limit with this software.
I am confident of the software knowing it is maintained and updated by Dr. Fredlund who is a geotechnical engineer. You'll get personal attention when it comes to technical support. Other software companies have typical list of common questions that they call technical support."

"The software developed by SoilVision Systems Ltd. for 3D saturated / unsaturated flow is a powerful tool for the analysis and design of reclamation systems for waste rock and mine tailings. Groundwater flow together with fate and transport issues are central to the design of remedial measures. SoilVision has demonstrated the ability to provide 3D solutions for difficult unsaturated flow problems in waste deposits at mine sites that cannot be solved using current software available. I feel that SoilVision offers a key service with respect to the remediation and design of long-term closure systems for mine waste management."

“The SVFlux software is very efficient, flexible and comprehensive. It fits well to different simulations while allowing you to quickly change several parameters without having to rebuild the model."

“Research projects often require the use of raw data from conventional software packages to be incorporated into advanced customized solutions. It is often hard to find commercial software that allows you access to the raw data. SVFlux not only gives you access, it allows you to export the raw data in several user defined formats. This feature has been invaluable in my Ph.D. program."
Jason Stianson
Ph.D. Candidate
University of Alberta
"What I like most about the SVFlux software is its easy-to-use interface and the superb user support SoilVision provides. By treating the vadose and phreatic zones as one coupled system SVFlux avoids the problem of a free, moving boundary presented by a transient ground water surface that would otherwise hinder the application of a finite element approach. I can recommend SVFlux to anybody with an interest in subsurface hydrology."

"I like the powerful AutoCAD input method and unsaturated soil properties estimation options. This gives me a convienient method to model complex geometry and material properties."

“As an engineering tool no other software on the market can match the ability of SVFlux and ChemFlux to explore creative solutions for seepage and contaminant hydrogeology problems"
Robert Donahue, PhD, P.Eng.

“My study required the input of large data including surface temperatures ranging from 350C to -300C. The flexibility and versatility in SVHeat allowed me to run thermal simulations with sudden changes in boundary conditions using non-linear material properties."
Elsa Tan
Graduate Student
University of Saskatchewan
“Modelling can be time consuming but SVHeat improved our efficiency by allowing us to use AutoCAD (tm) drawings and automatic mesh generation while managing the input data through a database."

“We can attest to the value of these products in a consulting environment. We have used these software products to provide solutions we otherwise would not be able to deliver.."

“In order to optimize airvolume at an existing landfill we had to evaluate the slope stability of the piggy-backed waste body on top of the existing one. The unique geometry (compared to traditional slope-stability problems) as well as the nontypical strength parameters of the baled and in-situ compacted waste led us to consider unconventional approaches. We
believe that the unconstrained search for failure surfaces is more appropriate to our application than the search criteria incorporated in other products."
